Chapter Eight

Chase felt like he was in a daze as he collected his clothes up and shrugged back into them. They’d fallen farther than he’d thought and he had to walk around the field looking for them. Maybe that was a good thing because it gave him some much needed breathing space, some thinking space, and what Chase was thinking was not all good.

In truth, he was having a bit of trouble understanding what had just happened. One moment he had been standing there, struck by just how beautiful Robbie was, and the next they had been kissing, and then he had been sinking into Robbie’s wondrously tight, wet sheath.

His virgin sheath.

Chase was pretty damn sure that was the case, because Robbie’s responses had been too innocent, too delightful to be anything else. Sure, maybe he’d been fucked roughly in the past, and that might explain it, explain how he could be so taken by the gentle fucking that Chase had given him, but Chase didn’t think so. Robbie was too giving for that, too loving...

Loving...

Chase winced slightly as he buttoned up his shirt. He’d only been with a few males during his life but he had never been with one who was so affectionate during sex. Robbie seemed to revel in kissing and touching, like it meant more than the actual sex did, and maybe it did, because more than once during their time on the ground Chase had found himself captivated by Robbie’s kisses, only remembering a heartbeat later that he was buried deep inside the other man.

How had this happened?

Chase turned and looked across at Robbie. The moon was still in its early phase but it was shining on the field, shining directly on Robbie. The other man was sat on the ground, checking over the backpack that he had dropped when Chase had tackled him.

He was smiling.

He was happy.

Chase wished he could simply allow himself to embrace the happiness that was flooding through him but he knew that he couldn’t. It was too tinged with other emotions. Namely, a slither of panic and a whole heaping of regret. Because fact was, he and Robbie should not have fucked.

That was not why Chase was here.

Not why he had come after Robbie.

He narrowed his eyes on the other man. His mind racing with questions as he did so. Maybe he could tell himself that it was a one off? That it didn’t mean anything? That they were just two men finding pleasure with each other? Only, Chase knew that was not the case. What had just happened between them was in no way as simple as that. Not for him and certainly not for Robbie.

And he should have shown more fucking self control!

But, Chase knew that his control had fled the moment Robbie had made his halting offer. An offer in which he had omitted the most important detail—that Chase was taking his virginity, claiming him in a way that no wolf had ever done before.

At that thought Chase took a deep breath and crossed the space between them.
